About this position

Technical University of Munich (TUM) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Lab Automation and Data-Driven Colloid Science at the Chair of Complex Soft Matter, led by Prof. Stefan Guldin.

The project sits at the interface of soft matter, colloid science, materials science, chemistry, physics, automation, and AI-driven experimentation. The successful candidate will help build next-generation automated research workflows, including robotic liquid handling, high-throughput experimentation, closed-loop/self-driving laboratory systems, quantitative characterization, Python-based data analysis, modelling, machine learning, and open-source hardware/software tools.

The position is associated with the ERC Consolidator Grant Engineering Multivalency for Superselective Recognition of Pathogen Targets (EngToTarget), offering scientific freedom to shape a rapidly growing research direction in autonomous experimentation and colloid science.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline; strong experimental and/or computational background in laboratory automation, robotics, and autonomous experimentation; experience with Python and data analysis; interest in soft matter, self-assembly, biointerfaces, or advanced materials characterization.

Funding: Salary according to TV-L. The appointment is initially for 24 months, with possible extension depending on performance and funding availability.

Application deadline: 21 June 2026.

How to apply: Send a complete application as a single PDF to [email protected]. Informal inquiries can be directed to Prof. Stefan Guldin at [email protected]. More information is available on the TUM job page and the Chair of Complex Soft Matter website.
