About this position

Auburn University’s Harrison College of Pharmacy is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a newly funded collaborative National Cancer Institute (NCI) R01 project focused on the discovery of natural products for colorectal cancer prevention.

The position sits in the Department of Drug Discovery and Development and offers research experience at the interface of natural products chemistry, metabolomics, drug discovery, mass spectrometry, and cancer prevention research. The fellow will join a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with opportunities for manuscript preparation, grant development, conference presentations, and collaboration with nationally recognized investigators.

Research responsibilities include isolation, purification, and structural characterization of bioactive natural products; mass spectrometry-based analysis of natural products and botanical extracts; bioactivity-guided evaluation using cell culture and LC-MS-based oncoprotein and enzyme assays; and investigation of compounds with potential chemopreventive activity against colorectal cancer.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Natural Products Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related field by the start date. Strong experience in compound isolation and structure elucidation, analytical characterization, cell culture, in vitro bioassays, LC-MS-based assays, and scientific communication is expected. Applicants must also meet U.S. work eligibility requirements.

Funding: this is a paid postdoctoral appointment with a stated salary of USD $46,800/year.

How to apply: submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests and career goals, and contact information for three professional references through the Auburn application portal. Review of applications begins on 2026-11-06 and continues until the position is filled. For questions, contact Dr. Angela I. Calderón at [email protected].
