About this position

Postdoc position in biomarkers of intake, effect, and disease risk in nutritional, health, and epidemiological studies research at the University of Barcelona.

The project, Food4HAging (PID2023-148013OB-C21), focuses on precision nutrition, exposome-related measures, and frailty dynamics in healthy ageing. The research aims to generate scientific evidence on diet–microbiota activity biomarkers, brain-gut-microbiota biomarkers, and environmental biomarkers in older individuals at risk of frailty, including progression to disability and broader consequences for health and well-being. The work is linked to the Toledo study, a cohort designed for frailty research in nonagenarians and centenarians.

This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral position in the Department of Nutrition, Food Sciences and Gastronomy, Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences, in Barcelona, Spain.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry, with a PhD in Chemistry, Food Science, Pharmacy, or Life Sciences. Experience in biomarkers of intake and contaminants is required, and prior work in bioanalytical method development, validation, sample preparation, solid-phase extraction, HPLC/GC/MS, targeted and untargeted metabolomics, and data analysis software will be considered an advantage. An advanced level of English is required.

Responsibilities include day-to-day lab management, processing and analysing biological samples, managing LC/MS/MS experimental protocols, project and quality control tasks, clinical study sample tracking, development and validation of LC-MS methods, extraction of bioactive compounds, quantification of metabolomic profiles by mass spectrometry, preparation of analytical reports, and supervision of PhD and Master students and their manuscripts/reports.

The application deadline is 6 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Madrid). Applications should be submitted via the university application website. The posting indicates that the selected candidate must accept the offer within 3 working days of notification, and the official starting date may depend on administrative processing.
