About this position

Postdoctoral Research Fellow opportunity in redox-active materials chemistry at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver campus, in the Amini Lab within the Department of Materials Engineering.

The project focuses on the design, synthesis, functionalization, and chemical modification of redox-active organic, inorganic, and coordination compounds for electrochemical energy storage. Research topics include tuning redox potentials, electrochemical reversibility, reaction kinetics, stability, and structure–property relationships. The role also includes electrochemical characterization and collaboration in an interdisciplinary environment, including work with experts in electrochemistry and AI-enabled materials discovery.

Eligibility: applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong experience in synthetic chemistry and materials chemistry is preferred, especially redox-active materials. Cyclic voltammetry and related electrochemical techniques are an asset. A strong publication record and good communication skills are expected.

Funding: CAD $70,000/year plus about 20% benefits. External postdoctoral awards or fellowships may receive an additional top-up.

Application: email Prof. Kiana Amini at [email protected] with a CV (including publication list) and a brief description of relevant research experience. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Deadline: posting expiry is 31 December 2026.

What's required

Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong background in materials chemistry and synthesis of redox-active materials is expected, especially synthetic organic and/or inorganic/coordination chemistry, design and functionalization of redox-active molecules and materials, chemical modification to tune redox potentials and other redox properties, and knowledge of relevant materials characterization techniques. Experience with electrochemical characterization, particularly cyclic voltammetry, is an asset. Candidates should have a strong publication record, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to conduct independent research and work in an interdisciplinary environment.

How to apply

Email Prof. Kiana Amini with a CV including a publication list and a brief description of relevant research experience. Use the subject line provided in the post. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
