About this position
University College Dublin is advertising a temporary 24-month Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 in the School of Earth Sciences. The project is led by Dr Koen Torremans as part of the Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences (iCRAG).
The research project, “Structural geology and the controls on mineralisation at Rosh Pinah”, focuses on the Gariep Belt in southern Namibia and the structural architecture around the Rosh Pinah Zn-Pb-Ag deposit. The successful candidate will carry out integrated structural analysis at regional, district, and deposit scales, combining field and underground structural mapping, high-resolution photogrammetry, borehole data interpretation, and petrographic and mineral chemical analysis.
This is a strong opportunity for researchers interested in earth science, geology, structural geology, mineralisation, ore deposit geology, and mineral exploration. The post is described as a rare chance to work on an underexplored structural setting in excellent desert exposure, in collaboration with industry partners.
Funding: PD1 salary is €47,273–€53,925 per annum; PD2 salary is €55,399–€60,250 per annum, with appointment depending on qualifications and experience.
Eligibility: PD1 is intended for early-stage researchers, either just after PhD completion or entering a new area for the first time. PD2 is intended for researchers who have completed PD1. Experience limits apply: total postdoctoral experience including the advertised post should not exceed 4 years for PD1 or 6 years for PD2.
Deadline: 30 September 2026 at 12:00 noon local Irish time.
How to apply: Use the Apply button on the vacancy page and submit before the deadline. Late applications are not accepted.
