About this position
Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Epidemiology in New York City.
The position focuses on the role of nutrition and the gut microbiome in infectious diseases and maternal-child health outcomes. Research projects include nutritional interventions and microbiome/metabolome changes in children exposed to HIV, the effects of maternal HIV infection and treatment on diet, appetite, and the gut microbiome in mother-infant populations, and associations between gut microbiome, alcohol intake, and TB treatment outcomes in adults.
The postdoc will gain experience in epidemiologic study design and conduct, microbiome and metabolomics data processing, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, scientific presentations, and grant proposal development. There is access to well-characterized cohorts and clinical trial data, with opportunities to lead and co-author papers and develop independent projects.
Requirements: PhD or equivalent in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Nutrition/Metabolism, Computational Biology, or a related field; proficiency in R or a related language; experience in microbiome bioinformatics and data analysis; metabolomics and multi-omics experience preferred; strong quantitative and communication skills; and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
