About this position

EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in accelerator design for the FCC-ee within the Laboratory of Particle Accelerator Physics (LPAP) in Switzerland.

The project is part of the CHART-funded effort “General Accelerator Design at the FCC-ee: optics, tuning knobs and collective effects studies”. The successful candidate will work on accelerator physics, beam dynamics, optics design, beam-beam interactions, collective effects, and computational design for future circular colliders.

Research topics include developing optics tools to improve beam lifetime, luminosity, and dynamic aperture; exploring alternative optics designs compatible with high-temperature superconducting nested magnet technology; and implementing correction schemes to optimize beam polarization and top-up injection schemes. The role also involves supporting parallel developments led by PhD students and contributing to publications and teaching activities.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must have completed a PhD and should have a strong background in accelerator physics, physics-based simulations, numerical optimization, and scientific software development. Experience with tools such as BMAD, MADX, XSUITE, SAD, GEANT4, and collective effects codes is desirable. Excellent English communication skills and teamwork are expected.

Funding/employment: this is a postdoctoral employment position, initially for 12 months and renewable up to 3 years, with very competitive EPFL employment conditions. No stipend amount is listed.

Application: submit the application only through the EPFL online platform. Prepare a single PDF including a motivation statement (max 1 page), CV with publication list, grades, scholarships, prizes, and contact details for 2–3 referees. Applications are reviewed until the position is filled. Start date: 1 January 2027.
