About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in Agricultural Microbial Biotechnology within the AgroBioSciences (AgBS) program in Benguerir, Morocco.

The role sits in a multidisciplinary research environment focused on solving major African agriculture challenges through science and technology. The AgBS research center brings together expertise across microbiome research, omics, plant physiology and crop improvement, plant pathology, soil sciences, agronomy, and sustainable farming.

This postdoctoral project is centered on root-soil-nutrient-microbe interactions and the search for more sustainable ways to improve crop productivity. The research emphasizes how rhizosphere microbial activities, root plasticity, and beneficial plant-growth-promoting traits contribute to nutrient acquisition and yield. The successful candidate will investigate soil microbial modifications related to nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics, along with molecular and physiological traits that influence biological nutrient acquisition, including biological nitrogen fixation.

Key responsibilities include designing and conducting laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments; performing biochemical, molecular, and genomic analyses of soil-plant-microbe systems; collaborating with internal and external researchers; co-supervising graduate and undergraduate students; contributing to teaching or other training activities; and disseminating results through conferences and publications in leading international journals.

The desired profile is a candidate with a PhD in plant-soil microbiology, molecular microbiology, or a related field. The university is seeking strong expertise in plant-soil-microbe interactions, nodule and root physiology, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and soil biogeochemical processes, especially nitrogen and phosphorus cycling. A strong publication record, student supervision experience, fluency in spoken English, and proficiency in academic writing are important. The role also calls for teamwork, collaborative skills, and the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary research setting.

The appointment is for 1 year with possible renewal. The desirable start date is September 1, 2026. The posting lists the application deadline as unspecified. Applications should be submitted through the online application link.

Institution: Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Benguerir, Morocco.
