About this position

Graduate Student Opportunity: M.Sc. or Ph.D. assistantship in Plant-Microbe Interactions at the University of Florida, Department of Plant Pathology, in the Martins Lab.

This opportunity is part of a multi-state USDA-NIFA project, Hunting for Healthy Soils, focused on how soil micro-predators shape microbial communities and support plant health in organic production systems. The research combines laboratory and greenhouse experiments with molecular and computational approaches, including qPCR, metagenomics, bioinformatics, and statistical data analysis.

Applicants with background or coursework in plant pathology, microbiology, soil science, nematology, or molecular biology are encouraged to apply. Experience with molecular techniques, data analysis, teamwork, and communication is especially valued. The selected student will also contribute to scientific publications and presentations.

This is a graduate assistantship opportunity for a student starting in Spring 2027. Interested candidates should email [email protected] by August 10 with a cover letter, CV, and unofficial transcripts.
