About this position

The Department of Neuro-Oncology at the University Hospital Bonn is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Cell-State Plasticity in Gliomas (m/w/d). This is a full-time research position (38.5 hours/week) in the newly established Experimental Neuro-Oncology group led by Prof. Sevin Turcan.

The project sits at the interface of tumor genomics, epigenetics, chromatin biology, functional perturbation, and cell-state plasticity, with a strong focus on IDH-mutant glioma. The lab aims to understand how oncometabolite-driven epigenetic reprogramming creates persistent tumor cell states and how these states evolve during malignant progression and recurrence.

The successful candidate will lead an independent project using patient-derived glioma models, tumor genomics, DNA methylation, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&Tag/CUT&RUN, selected single-cell/spatial technologies, and functional validation approaches. The role also involves close collaboration with computational partners and contributes to a broader research program on glioma evolution, epigenetic memory, and therapeutic state rewriting.

Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree in biology, cancer biology, neuroscience, genomics, or a related field (or near completion); strong interest in brain tumor biology, tumor evolution, and epigenetic regulation; hands-on molecular/cellular biology experience; and very good English. Experience with cancer models, stem-cell/organoid systems, patient-derived cultures, CRISPR, bioinformatics, or single-cell/nuclei assays is an advantage. German is helpful but not required.

Funding and conditions: the position is initially limited to two years, with the possibility of extension. Compensation follows TV-L / TV-Ä at university hospitals and includes standard benefits and additional payments.

How to apply: send a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV with publication list, and contact details for two to three referees. Quote vacancy reference ST-47008 and email the application to [email protected]. The deadline is 2026-09-15.

What's required

Doctoral degree in biology, cancer biology, neuroscience, genomics, or a related discipline, or close to completion. Strong interest in brain tumor biology, tumor evolution, epigenetic regulation, and cell-state plasticity. Hands-on experience in molecular and cellular biology is required; experience with cancer models, stem-cell/organoid systems, or patient-derived cultures is highly desirable. Advantageous experience includes cancer genomics, epigenomics, chromatin profiling, CRISPR/functional perturbation, RNA-seq, single-cell/nuclei assays, DNA methylation analysis, or bioinformatic analysis in R/Python. Very good English is required; German is an asset but not mandatory. Team spirit, reliability, and enthusiasm for an international, interdisciplinary environment are expected.

How to apply

Submit a single PDF application including a cover letter, CV with publication list, and contact details for two to three referees. Quote vacancy reference ST-47008 and send the application to Prof. Sevin Turcan by email.
