About this position

Leibniz University Hannover is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in computational electrodynamics and inverse design of time-varying metamaterials within the ERC project TEMPORE.

The position is based at the Institute of Photonic Systems and Technologies, the Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies (HOT), and the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD. The project explores the inverse design of dynamic metamaterials operating on picosecond to femtosecond timescales, aiming to enable fully reprogrammable and multifunctional nanophotonic systems.

The successful candidate will help develop the computational platform for the project, including time-domain inverse design frameworks, scalable high-performance implementations, distributed-memory (MPI) and GPU-based architectures, and large-scale FDTD and related solvers for dynamic and nonlinear materials. Research topics include nonlinear nanophotonics, ultrafast optics, optical metasurfaces, metamaterials, and physically realizable 3D nanophotonic systems.

Applicants should have a completed university science degree in a relevant discipline, strong C/C++ programming skills, a solid background in computational electromagnetics, experience with HPC and parallel programming, and experience in inverse design/optimization. A strong publication record and ability to work in an international collaborative environment are also expected.

The post is 100% TV-L 13, funded by the European Research Council under Horizon Europe, and is initially limited to 3 years with possible extension.

To apply, submit a single PDF containing your CV, degree certificates and transcripts, two references, and a cover letter. The deadline is 2026-09-30. Applications should be sent to office-calalesina@hot.uni-hannover.de or by post to Leibniz University Hannover / HOT.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
