About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity in computational neuroimaging and computational neuroscience at the Gozzi Laboratory, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Rovereto, Italy.
The project focuses on understanding the principles governing large-scale brain network organization and dynamics. The lab combines functional neuroimaging across species with causal circuit manipulations, electrophysiology, optical imaging, and computational approaches. The successful candidate will work with extensive rodent and human datasets, including fMRI, fUSI, causal circuit perturbations, electrophysiology, and large cross-species imaging databases.
Possible research directions include: causal control of brain-state dynamics; perturbational mapping of functional networks; and computational dissection of heterogeneity in autism. The lab is especially interested in modern methods for representing high-dimensional brain dynamics in low-dimensional latent spaces, such as nonlinear dimensionality reduction, generative and state-space models, graph-based approaches, and contrastive-learning methods.
Applicants should have a PhD in Computational Neuroscience, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Neuroimaging, or a related field. Strong quantitative and programming skills (preferably Python and/or MATLAB), experience with complex high-dimensional datasets, the ability to independently formulate and test hypotheses, strong problem-solving skills, and at least one first-author publication are required.
The position is a 1-year postdoctoral contract, renewable. The post does not mention a stipend amount or tuition support. Applications should include a CV with publication list, a concise statement of research experience/computational expertise/scientific interests, and contact details for two academic referees.
Deadline: 29 October 2026.
