About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet (Solna, Sweden).
This postdoctoral position is in the Unit of Environmental Epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM). The project focuses on how heat, air pollution, and climate-related environmental exposures affect women’s, newborn, perinatal, maternal, and child health. The role is embedded in a broader effort to build an international research consortium on climate change and maternal, newborn, and child health.
The work includes advanced epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental health methods, with opportunities to develop and apply distributed lag non-linear models (DLNM), causal inference methods (including g-methods), and Bayesian hierarchical and spatiotemporal models. You will work with nationwide Swedish health registers, environmental exposure databases, and international datasets, including data linkage, harmonisation, and common data models for cross-country comparisons.
Eligibility and profile: a PhD or equivalent is required by the employment decision date. The strongest fit is a candidate with a PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, biomedicine, or a related quantitative field; formal training in epidemiology and biostatistics; research experience in environmental epidemiology; strong R programming skills; and excellent English communication. Additional merits include experience with time-varying exposures, exposure measurement error, missing data, selection bias, simulation studies, reproducible workflows, and environmental exposure assessment for air pollution and/or temperature.
Employment: two-year fixed-term, full-time postdoctoral position. The post also includes limited teaching and student supervision.
Location: Solna, Sweden.
Application: submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system. Required documents include a PhD certificate, complete CV/resumé, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work.
Deadline: 2026-11-04.

Applicants need strong statistical programming skills in R, experience with large and complex datasets, and excellent oral and written English. Strong merits include advanced quantitative/methodological skills for time-varying environmental exposures, non-linear and delayed exposure-response modelling, critical windows of susceptibility, interactions or combined effects of multiple exposures, and experience with exposure measurement error, uncertainty, missing data, selection bias, simulation studies, reproducible workflows, and environmental exposure assessment (air pollution and/or temperature).
How to apply
Prepare the required documents in English or Swedish: PhD certificate, complete CV with thesis defence date and academic details, full publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. Submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system before the deadline.
