About this position
The Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Legal History within the MORALMEM project, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The project examines the legal history of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), Holocaust memory, EU legislation on genocide denial, and the political and legal framing of collective memory in Europe.
This is a one-year fixed-term postdoctoral position, starting either 1 February 2027 to 31 January 2028 or for one year as agreed. The appointee will develop their own research in relation to the project and work closely with Dr. Karolina Stenlund and collaborators at the Faculty of Law.
Research themes include law, history, legal history, memory studies, archival research, and public engagement. Duties include writing single-authored journal articles, co-authoring/editing academic work, organizing conference panels, participating in workshops and seminars, outreach, and some teaching/co-teaching and undergraduate supervision.
Applicants must hold a relevant doctoral degree by the first day of employment, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work, and have completed the PhD within the last five years (excluding family leave and equivalent absences). English is the working language; Swedish language skills are also valued. The appointee is expected to reside in Finland during employment.
Salary is approximately €48,000–€50,000 gross per year, with additional pay based on personal performance. Benefits include occupational health care, health insurance, flexible working hours, and campus sports facilities.
