About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Chemistry and Electrochemistry at Université Bourgogne Europe (ICMUB, CNRS UMR 6302), Dijon, France.
This postdoctoral project is part of the regional PYRAMIDE initiative, focused on porphyrin-based electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The recruited researcher will work within the EMCAP team (Electrochemistry, Materials, Coordination, Analyses and Porphyrinoids) on the synthesis, electrochemical functionalization, and electropolymerization of porphyrin-based molecules and materials, followed by evaluation of their catalytic performance using electroanalytical and analytical techniques, including micro-GC.
The Institute of Molecular Chemistry of the University of Burgundy is a research-intensive environment with strong activities in environment and health, supported by advanced technological platforms. The role includes protocol development for molecular synthesis and functionalization, preparation of porphyrin-based materials, installation support for a new micro-GC instrument, and assessment of key electrocatalytic parameters such as TOF and TON. The researcher will also contribute to literature monitoring, weekly progress reporting in English, scientific publications and/or patents, and presentation of results at conferences and seminars.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent and have less than three years of postdoctoral experience. Strong practical and theoretical expertise in molecular synthesis and electrochemistry is required, with mandatory prior experience in electrocatalysis. The laboratory expects excellent command of relevant characterization methods, including NMR, IR/Raman, UV-Vis, MALDI-TOF, and ESI HRMS, as well as familiarity with organic synthesis of macrocycles, coordination chemistry, cyclic voltammetry, inert-atmosphere work, chromatography, and laboratory safety procedures. Strong scientific English, teamwork, autonomy, rigor, and organizational skills are emphasized.
The appointment is a temporary, full-time postdoctoral contract for 12 months, starting around mid-October 2026, with a salary of €2,682.92 gross per month. The position is based in Dijon, France. Applications must be submitted via the University of Bourgogne Europe recruitment website and should include a CV, a cover letter, and the PhD defense report. For further information, contact Prof. Charles Devillers at [email protected].

What's required
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent and less than three years of postdoctoral experience. Strong expertise in molecular synthesis and electrochemistry is required, including analytical electrochemistry, electrosynthesis, and electrocatalysis, with prior experience in electrocatalysis mandatory. Proficiency in spectroscopic techniques available in the laboratory is required, including 1H and heteronuclear NMR, 2D NMR, IR/Raman, UV-Vis, MALDI-TOF, and ESI HRMS. Candidates should have knowledge of organic synthesis of macrocycles such as porphyrins and derivatives, coordination chemistry, purification and characterization of organic compounds, cyclic voltammetry, and electroanalytical methods for key electrocatalysis parameters. Strong scientific English is required. Experience with inert atmosphere techniques, chromatography, bibliographic software, reference management, and molecular drawing tools is expected, along with teamwork, organization, autonomy, rigor, and compliance with laboratory safety regulations.
