About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher in multi-omic bioinformatics in Multiple Sclerosis at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, located in Solna, Sweden. The position is within the Functional (Epi)genomics of Neuroinflammatory Diseases group and the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) network, in a highly collaborative and international research environment.

The project focuses on deciphering multiple sclerosis pathogenesis with an emphasis on the mechanisms underlying smoking-induced lung inflammation in MS. The work involves analysis of omics data and multi-omic integration, including bulk next-generation sequencing transcriptomic data (coding and non-coding RNA-seq), methylomic data (Illumina array and EM-seq), with the possibility to analyze single-cell data.

Applicants must hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, data analysis, life sciences in computational science/biology, or a similar field. Essential skills include strong programming in R, Python, and Linux-based software, experience with array/sequencing-based omics processing and visualization, documented multi-omic integration, statistics, and high-performance computing (e.g. UPPMAX). Strong English communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative interdisciplinary team are required.

Meritorious experience includes research on human disease, autoimmunity, lung biology, inflammation, gene regulation, epigenetics, DNA methylation, and non-coding RNA biology. The role expects active leadership of computational work, participation in scientific writing and presentations, and a commitment to a friendly and productive work environment.

This is a temporary full-time postdoctoral position with monthly salary under collective agreements. Applications must include a PhD certificate, a complete CV, a publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. Apply through the Varbi recruitment system by 2026-09-13.
