About this position
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Para Sport Classification within the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, Department of Human Movement Sciences, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The postdoc will lead two IPC-funded projects focused on improving classification for athletes with vision impairment. The research centres on the development and validation of novel assessment tools, including virtual reality-based visual field testing and technology-assisted visual acuity assessment, with the goal of improving the accuracy, accessibility, and integrity of Para sport classification.
You will work in the Learning and Performance Section and collaborate with national and international partners, including the International Paralympic Committee. Responsibilities include day-to-day project leadership, study design, data collection across institutions, data analysis, manuscript preparation, conference presentations, stakeholder reporting, supervision of Master’s students, and contribution to dissemination and future grant applications.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Human Movement Sciences, Sport Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Psychology, Neuroscience, Vision Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Strong independent research experience, a solid publication record, excellent English, collaboration skills, and the ability to manage multiple activities are expected. Programming experience in Matlab, Python, R, Unity, or similar tools is an advantage, as is experience in sport, disability sport, rehabilitation, or vision science.
The position is 0.8 FTE for 27 months (or equivalent full-time duration of about 21.5 months). Salary is €3,706 to €5,760 gross per month on a full-time basis, plus standard fringe benefits. Applications close on 2026-09-30.

What's required
