About this position
The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Social Sciences to join the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE). The successful candidate will work within the Y-LOCAL project, which investigates the factors and conditions that enable young people to feel socially integrated and supported in their local environments.
The project involves municipal structure and actor analysis through case studies, youth surveys, examination of local governance mechanisms, and analysis of local infrastructure and networks. The goal is to identify characteristics of youth-oriented municipalities, highlight best practices, analyze success factors, and determine developmental needs and innovation potentials. The research findings will inform policy-makers and practitioners, providing evidence-based recommendations and contributing to academic discourse in local youth research. The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in empirical implementation, joining the research group on non-formal education at the Centre for Childhood and Youth Research (CCY) within the Department of Social Sciences.
The CCY is a multidisciplinary center with around 20 staff members, conducting both qualitative and quantitative studies on youth development and social inequalities, and collaborating with national and international institutes. Responsibilities include conducting qualitative interviews with young people, designing and analyzing online surveys with municipal stakeholders, maintaining communication with project partners, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, preparing policy briefs and data reports, presenting at conferences, and supporting grant applications.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in sociology or a related discipline, strong expertise in qualitative research, and basic quantitative skills. Experience in youth research and knowledge of Luxembourg's social sector and non-formal education are assets. Proficiency in data analysis software and fluency in at least two of Luxembourgish, German, or French are required.
The position offers a fixed-term contract for 24 months, full-time, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176. The University of Luxembourg provides a modern, international, and inclusive environment, with excellent infrastructure and strong ties to society and industry. Applications should be submitted online, including CV, cover letter, writing sample, diplomas, and referee contacts. Early applications are encouraged.
