About this position

University of Helsinki is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher in Synthesis and Analysis position in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Finland.

The project is part of Dr. Anže Zupanc’s newly developing research group and is hosted within Professor Timo Repo’s Catalysis and Green Chemistry research environment. The research focuses on sustainable critical raw materials recycling, green organic synthesis, and mechanochemistry, with an emphasis on closed-loop dissolution/activation methodologies for platinum group metals and rare-earth elements.

The successful candidate will work at the interface of coordination chemistry, organometallurgy, organic synthesis, method development, and analytical chemistry. Responsibilities include developing recycling protocols for different metals, characterizing reaction mixtures and isolated materials, supporting supervision of students, presenting results at scientific meetings, and contributing to manuscripts and funding applications.

This is a postdoctoral opening, fixed-term for 12 months with a possible extension. The position is funded by the Research Council of Finland and offers an approximate salary of 3900–4200 €/month plus a performance-based component.

Applicants should hold a PhD in chemistry or a related field. Helpful experience includes coordination complex chemistry, molecular metal compounds, homogeneous metal catalysis, organic synthesis, mechanochemistry of metals, and analytical methods such as NMR, PXRD, HRMS, and ICP-MS/AES. Strong motivation, independence, teamwork in an international setting, and excellent English communication skills are expected.

To apply, submit a CV with publications, a one-page research interests statement explaining your motivation, and a copy of your PhD certificate. External applicants should use the Apply Now button; internal applicants should use the Employee login button.
