About this position

Gdansk Medical University’s Laboratory of Translational Oncology is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the EpiEMT project, focused on understanding and therapeutically targeting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) heterogeneity in breast cancer. The team studies how cancer cells progress through the metastatic cascade using in vitro cancer models, murine models, patient-derived tissue, liquid biopsy samples, and single-cell functional, genomic, and transcriptomic methods.

The postdoctoral appointee will lead microscopy-based work, 3D phenotyping, and quantitative assessment of EMT-associated phenotypes in cell lines and FFPE patient tumour samples. Core tasks include optimizing drug-screening strategies for EMT reversal in 2D and 3D breast cancer models, performing live-cell imaging, analyzing changes in gene expression and pathways, and developing quantitative image-analysis pipelines integrated with pharmacological and molecular assays. The project also includes spatial transcriptomic analysis of FFPE breast tumour samples using 10x Genomics, as well as radiomics-style experiments to assess radiosensitivity after phenotype reversal.

This is a full-time, temporary position for 48 months starting in October 2026 (the start date can be adjusted). The project is part of the NCN OPUS30 call and is not funded by an EU research framework programme. The position offers the chance to work in a multidisciplinary translational oncology environment with pathologists, radiooncologists, radiologists, molecular biologists, and biostatisticians, alongside opportunities for international research exchange and direct supervision by experienced researchers.

Applicants should hold a PhD in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline, and demonstrate strong experimental experience with mammalian cell culture, microscopy, immunostaining, molecular biology techniques, and quantitative analysis. Excellent English and strong organizational and independent research skills are expected. Applications must be submitted via the online recruitment system before 2026-09-20.

What's required

A PhD or equivalent in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required. The candidate should have strong practical experience with 2D mammalian cell culture, with 3D cell culture considered an advantage, as well as experience with cytotoxicity and drug-response experiments. Strong expertise in microscopy and immunostaining is expected; confocal microscopy and quantitative image analysis or multivariate phenotypic analysis are a strong plus. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as western blotting, qPCR, and ELISA is required, along with knowledge of statistical analysis and quantitative interpretation of experimental data. The post requires the ability to document and critically evaluate results and literature, creativity, independence, strong organisational skills, excellent spoken and written English, and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment.

How to apply
