About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris, France, within the Laboratory of Microbial Gene Expression at the Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique (IBPC).
The project focuses on tRNA modifications, stress adaptation, and antimicrobial tolerance in clinical Escherichia coli strains. The successful candidate will join the “Epitranscriptional Responses to Antimicrobial Stress” team led by Zeynep Baharoglu and will work on the molecular and genetic determinants of strain-to-strain differences in stress responses.
Research methods include experimental microbiology, bacterial genetics, CRISPRi, comparative genomics, bioinformatics, phenotypic assays, and statistical analysis/visualization of genomic and phenotypic data. The role also involves culture and handling of clinical strains, construction of mutant strains and plasmids, screening strain libraries, and contributing to publications and presentations.
Eligibility highlights: PhD or equivalent in microbiology, bacterial genetics, molecular biology, genomics, or a related field; strong hands-on experience in bacterial microbiology and genetics; experience with CRISPRi, genome analysis, comparative genomics, and R/Python-based data analysis; good scientific English. Basic French is listed in the requirements.
Funding: full-time temporary postdoctoral contract; no stipend amount is stated. The post is not funded by an EU research programme.
Deadline: 25 September 2026, 23:59 UTC.
How to apply: Submit your application via the CNRS vacancy page or the Euraxess listing. Review the full job description and apply before the deadline.

What's required
PhD or equivalent in microbiology, bacterial genetics, molecular biology, genomics, or a related field. Strong experimental experience in bacterial microbiology and bacterial genetics is required, including strain construction and use of CRISPRi strain libraries. Applicants should have proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques, bacterial genome analysis, comparative genomics, and bioinformatics applied to genomic data. Experience with data analysis and visualization using R and/or Python is expected. A strong interest in bacterial stress adaptation, antimicrobial tolerance, and translational regulation is required, along with good written and spoken scientific English. Basic French is listed, and experience with clinical Escherichia coli strains would be a significant asset.
How to apply
Apply through the CNRS job portal or the Euraxess application page. Review the full vacancy details and submit the application before the deadline.
