About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through its Geology & Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI), is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for a 12-month project on the valorization of complex phosphate ores. The position is based in Benguerir, Morocco, at UM6P’s research-focused campus.

The project addresses sustainable mineral processing for Moroccan phosphate resources, with an emphasis on innovative comminution and classification strategies. The successful postdoctoral researcher will work on autogenous grinding as a low-energy route for liberating indurated phosphates, combining mineralogical and mechanical characterization, pilot-scale testing, and advanced process simulation. The work is intended to improve grinding efficiency, increase resource recovery, and contribute to lower operational costs and energy consumption in phosphate beneficiation.

Research activities include a detailed literature review, design and implementation of mechanical, mineralogical, and rheological characterization studies, and the planning and execution of lab-scale grinding and classification trials. The researcher will also contribute to numerical modeling of beneficiation circuits using tools such as USIMPAC or similar software, interpret simulation and pilot-test results, prepare technical reports, and publish scientific outputs. Collaboration with internal researchers, external laboratories, and industrial partners is part of the role.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Mineral Processing, Mining Engineering, Georesources Engineering, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in ore characterization, strong knowledge of comminution and mineral beneficiation, and the ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment. Excellent English or French communication skills are required. Preferred experience includes grinding technology, process simulation software (USIMPAC, MODSIM, METSIM), industrial collaboration, and familiarity with phosphate ores and the North African mining context.
