About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is recruiting two Post-Doctoral Fellows for the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat-RC) in a collaborative project with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The position is centered on recycling plastic waste through innovative physical and/or chemical pathways, with a strong emphasis on sustainable materials research, polymer processing, and characterization.
The successful candidates will work under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi at UM6P. The research environment is multidisciplinary and applied, bringing together chemists, polymer specialists, and engineers to develop solutions that support a green and circular economy. The center focuses on advanced biobased products and materials, structure-property relationships across multiple length scales, and the translation of research into technological solutions for Morocco and Africa.
Day-to-day responsibilities include hands-on polymer processing, recycling, and characterization; designing, executing, and analyzing experiments using analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic methods; and maintaining detailed experimental records. The role also includes drafting technical reports, research papers, and conference presentations, contributing to proposal writing and external funding efforts, supervising undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, and undertaking short-term travel abroad when required.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. Relevant postdoctoral experience is expected, along with practical expertise in polymer processing, synthesis, and characterization. The university seeks candidates with strong material performance testing and reliability analysis skills, initiative, independent working ability, excellent organization, and strong team collaboration. Very good English communication skills are required, and experience in multidisciplinary research and funded projects is highly valued.
To apply, candidates should prepare a detailed CV, a cover letter including a synthetic overview of their background, research work, projects, activities, publications, and key achievements, a research plan explaining how their skills match the role and why they are interested, and contact details for three referees. This call advertises 2 positions. The application deadline is listed as unspecified.
