About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher – Magnetism in Thin-Film Materials
The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (FZU) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join its experimental program in magnetism and thin-film materials synthesis. The successful candidate will work with the Rare-Earth and Actinide Science Research Group at FZU in Prague, Czech Republic, contributing to research on magnetic and electronic properties of functional materials.
This position is centered on understanding the relationship between composition, structure, and functional properties in thin-film systems. The work includes preparation and optimization of thin films, magnetic and physical-property measurements, analysis and interpretation of experimental data, and development of new research directions within an international research environment.
The ideal applicant holds a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field and brings hands-on experience in thin-film synthesis by physical vapor deposition and/or other vacuum-based experimental techniques. Experience in magnetic characterization and physical-property measurements is required, while structural characterization is considered an advantage. The institute also expects strong analytical skills, a good publication record relative to career stage, and excellent written and spoken English.
This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one year, with a possible start in January 2027. The workplace is located at Slovanka, Pod Vodarenskou vezi 1, Prague 8. FZU highlights a friendly and professional scientific environment, access to major research facilities, collaboration on international projects, and staff benefits such as vacation time, meal allowance, pension and insurance contributions after the first year, English lessons, parking, and other recreational and wellbeing perks.
The application deadline is 21 October 2026 at 00:00 (Europe/Prague). Interested candidates should submit a structured CV and motivation letter through the online application form linked in the advertisement.
