About this position
Two PhD positions are available in Ultrafast Optical Control of Topological Magnetic Textures at the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education, Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
The project is part of the ERC grant Topological Magnetism by Photonic Design (TOP DESIGN) and is supervised by Prof. Dr. Bert Koopmans. The research focuses on skyrmions, topological magnetic textures, femtosecond laser control, magnetic imaging, and the design/synthesis of multilayer magnetic thin films. One PhD will study creation and annihilation of sub-diffraction-limited skyrmions with femtosecond laser pulses; the other will extend the approach to complex textures and lattices toward a magnetic topology printer.
The positions are 4 years full-time and include 10% teaching and supervision tasks. Funding includes a gross monthly salary of €3,204 to €4,051, plus an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
Eligibility highlights: a master's degree in experimental physics is required, preferably with experience in condensed matter, nanomaterials, magnetism, or light-matter interaction. Applicants should have excellent experimental skills and fluent English (C1).
Deadline: 16 October 2026. Apply online through the TU/e application platform with a cover letter, CV, publication list, and contact details for three references. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
