About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher – Mechanobiology of Human Microphysiological Systems at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), Braga, Portugal.
This postdoctoral opportunity sits within the Domingues Research Group and the ERC-funded Horizon Europe project FORTIFy. The project explores how advanced nanosystems interact with cellular mechanosensors to reveal new mechanisms in cellular mechanobiology. A major focus is the development and use of multicellular 3D tendon models, including tendon-on-chip systems, to study tendon biology, neurotendinous crosstalk, and immunomodulatory responses relevant to regenerative medicine and mechanotherapeutics.
The successful candidate will contribute to experimental research across stem cell biology, bioengineering, mechanobiology, molecular/cellular biology, and advanced human in vitro models. Duties include culturing and differentiating primary cells and iPSCs, building and characterising human iPSC-derived models, running 3D cultures, organoids, and organ-on-chip platforms, and integrating multimodal imaging with genomics and proteomics data. The role also includes planning R&D activities, analysing and presenting data, writing reports and papers, helping with grant applications, mentoring students, and taking part in collaborative lab activities.
The ideal profile is a researcher with a PhD or equivalent in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioengineering, Tissue Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Strong hands-on experience with iPSC culture, gene editing, molecular biology techniques, and genomic/transcriptomic technologies is expected. Experience with mechanobiology, immunology, neurobiology, 3D cell culture, organoids, organ-on-chip systems, and bioinformatics tools such as Benchling, SnapGene, Geneious, R, or Python is highly valued.
The position is full-time for 12 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months depending on performance. Salary is listed in the range of EUR 37K–40K, and INL offers additional benefits including private health insurance, tax benefits and diplomatic privileges, family allowances, nursery support, education-fee support for dependent children, relocation support, and 30 working days of annual leave.

Funding details
