About this position

The Laboratory of Protein Metabolism at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB) is offering a postdoctoral research position in the group led by Prof. Wojciech Pokrzywa. The project is funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) through the SONATA BIS grant Adaptation of Proteins to Evade Premature Degradation by the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System (project no. 2021/42/E/NZ1/00190).

The successful candidate will join an active research environment focused on ubiquitin and SUMO signaling, cullin-RING ubiquitin ligase (CRL) substrate receptors, chromatin regulation, genome-associated processes, and protein quality control. The work combines molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, proteomics, advanced microscopy, and functional genomics. This is a strong opportunity for a motivated and independent postdoctoral researcher interested in protein stability, proteostasis, and genome regulation.

The position is offered at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, a well-recognized research institute with state-of-the-art infrastructure and an international, collaborative atmosphere. The post is funded for two years through the NCN SONATA BIS project, with a full-time employment contract and a salary of approximately 9,700 PLN gross per month. The team also emphasizes mentoring and support for future fellowships and grant applications, including EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowships, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF), and other NCN or international funding schemes.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related discipline. A strong publication record is expected, along with hands-on experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or cell biology. Experience with mammalian cell culture, proteomics, protein biochemistry, advanced microscopy, or genome editing would be an advantage. Excellent English and strong independent research skills are required.

Applications must be submitted in English via the eRecruiter portal by 31 October 2026. Candidates should provide a CV with a full publication list, a motivation letter, and contact details for at least two referees, including one direct supervisor. A required personal data consent statement must also be included in the CV. For scientific questions, applicants may contact Prof. Wojciech Pokrzywa by email.
