About this position

Smart and Intelligent Sensors Laboratory at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, UAE is recruiting for a postdoctoral research / research associate / research assistant / research visitor position focused on next-generation intelligent insole technology for healthcare and wearable applications.

The project is highly interdisciplinary and centers on flexible electronics, wearable electronics, sensor fabrication, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), piezoelectric energy harvesters, self-powered sensing systems, IoT-enabled smart sensing platforms, and AI-assisted data processing for gait analysis and real-time health monitoring.

Successful candidates will contribute to the design, fabrication, integration, and characterization of flexible pressure and humidity sensors, conductive materials, flexible electrodes, and energy-harvesting devices, with the goal of building a multifunctional smart insole capable of self-powered operation.

Applicants are encouraged from backgrounds in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Physics, or related fields. Desired experience includes flexible/printed electronics, sensor characterization, nanomaterials and 2D materials, wearable sensors, signal processing, embedded systems, and IoT.

The role offers access to state-of-the-art facilities, a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, opportunities to publish in leading journals, and involvement in technology development from lab validation toward higher TRLs. No formal deadline is given; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
