Boston University’s Material Robotics Lab is recruiting two Postdoctoral Researchers in robotics, medical robotics, and related interdisciplinary areas for healthcare applications.

Position 1: Soft Optical Shape Sensing for Steerable Medical Robots
Develop soft optical fiber sensing systems for steerable catheters with real-time feedback and autonomous navigation for stroke care and neurovascular surgery.

Position 2: Vision-Guided Soft Robot for Lung Cancer Diagnosis
Develop a miniaturized soft robotic bronchoscope integrating computer vision, robotic needle steering, and stabilization mechanisms for early-stage lung cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The projects sit at the intersection of soft robotics, medical robotics, optical sensing, computer vision, autonomous systems, and surgical robotics. Researchers will collaborate closely with clinicians and engineers across Boston University, Johns Hopkins University, and Philips Robotics.

Appointment: Initial 1-year term with possible extension

Funding: Competitive salary commensurate with experience
