About this position
University of Central Florida (UCF), College of Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar in high-temperature materials, solar receivers, and thermochemical reactors.
This full-time research position is part of a U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) funded three-year project focused on the design and lab-scale testing of high-temperature thermochemical reactors for solar and other renewable energy conversion and storage. The scholar will co-lead a collaborative team spanning three universities, a clean energy start-up, and Sandia National Laboratories, and will contribute to prototype reactor development and demonstration.
Research keywords: experimental testing, high-temperature materials, fluid-solid interactions, reduction/oxidation kinetics, high-temperature radiation transfer, thermal/fluid systems, materials characterization (XRD, SEM, micro-CT), reactor design, model validation, and scale-up.
Eligibility: PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or a closely related field. Preferred experience includes TGA/DSC or mass spectrometry for high-temperature reactivity studies, furnace-based thermal/fluid experiments, and strong collaboration and communication skills.
Funding: DOE-funded project; salary listed as $57,000.
