About this position

The European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan is recruiting for two research roles in the Paola Scaffidi laboratory: a Postdoctoral Scientist and a Research Scientist. The project focuses on cancer epigenetics, chromatin, genomics, and the epigenetic regulatory network (ERN), with an emphasis on understanding how redundancy and functional interactions among epigenetic regulators maintain robust genome function and how disruption contributes to cancer development.

The postdoctoral role is aimed at scientists with relevant experimental experience and a strong publication record. The research scientist role is for candidates with deeper expertise in chromatin, genomics, or epigenetics, strong scientific independence, and the ability to lead complex projects. Both positions involve designing and performing genetic and genomics screens, functional experiments, and mechanistic studies, and collaborating with computational scientists to integrate mechanistic and systems-level insights.

Required background includes a PhD in molecular biology, genomics, biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field. Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing-based methods or high-content quantitative microscopy and large-scale genetic screens is expected. For the research scientist position, experience with animal studies is a plus. The post also values creativity, self-direction, and a strong record of productivity through peer-reviewed publications.

Funding is provided through the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the FIS 3 programme. Both positions offer a 3-year contract renewable for 2 additional years, with full social-security coverage. Salary is stated as 39,000 EUR gross per year for the postdoctoral scientist and 47,000 EUR gross per year for the research scientist.

The application deadline is 13 September 2026 at 12:00 noon. Applicants must submit a detailed CV, cover letter, supporting documents, and the names/contact details of two or three references through the appropriate application link.
