About this position
Research Associate on the structural biology of bacterial secretion systems at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus, London, UK).
This is a postdoctoral research opening in the Department of Infectious Disease, working with Prof Harry Low and the Low Lab on the molecular mechanism of bacterial secretion systems, including the Tad and Type 4 pilus systems.
The project is strongly focused on structural biology, cryo-electron microscopy (SPA, in-situ SPA, tomography), TIRF microscopy, and single-molecule FRET, alongside protein purification, biochemical/biophysical analysis, and structure determination of challenging multi-component membrane complexes.
Funding: the role is supported by an 8-year Wellcome Trust Discovery award. The appointment is full-time, fixed-term for 24 months, with salary in the range £50,733–£59,484 per annum. If the PhD has not yet been officially awarded, the candidate may be appointed as a Research Assistant on £45,399–£48,876 per annum. Visa costs for moving to the UK will be covered.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD in structural biology (cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or NMR), experience with protein structure-determination workflows from cloning/mutagenesis and purification through data collection, processing, and model building, and essential cryo-EM workflow experience. A strong publication record with at least one first-author paper in an international journal or bioRxiv is required; light microscopy experience is desirable.
How to apply: submit an application through the online portal using the Apply now link. Review the job description and apply before the closing date. The posting closes on 2026-11-16.
