About this position

Research Associate in Particle Physics on ATLAS at The University of Manchester.

This postdoctoral opportunity is based in the Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Manchester ATLAS group, with work on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The project focuses on weak boson pair polarisation in vector boson scattering, with semileptonic decays, and includes development and calibration of jet reconstruction and tagging algorithms. There may also be opportunities to contribute to phenomenology studies relevant to HL-LHC and FCC.

The group has broad activity in Higgs boson interactions, electroweak measurements, top quark physics, new-physics searches, detector operations, trigger and data acquisition, and Phase-II upgrade work. The successful candidate will be hosted by the Manchester ATLAS group and will make frequent visits to CERN.

Eligibility: applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in particle physics by the start date. Experience in data analysis, event generator modelling, trigger, detector operations, or combined detector performance is expected. Strong independent and collaborative working, communication, and time management skills are required.

Funding and terms: the position is funded by the Leverhulme Trust, is fixed term for 36 months, and starts on 1 January 2027 or shortly thereafter. Salary is £38,448–£46,970 per annum depending on experience.
