About this position

RIKEN is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Research Instruments Group at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science in Saitama, Japan. The position is centered on nuclear physics, unstable nuclei, RI beams, and ion optics, with work focused on the BigRIPS in-flight separator and the Radioactive Isotope (RI) Beam Factory.

The successful candidate will join the BigRIPS team and contribute to the production and delivery of RI beams for user experiments. The role also includes advancing efficient production of heavier RI beams, especially in the region of Z > 60, and may involve optimizing the ion optics of BigRIPS and/or developing novel heavy-ion detectors.

This is a contract, non-tenure-track postdoctoral position. The appointment is initially for one year and may be renewed up to a maximum of five years, subject to evaluation and institutional conditions. The post is open to applicants with a Ph.D. or those expected to obtain the degree before the start date; the postdoctoral definition notes the doctorate should normally have been earned within the last five years.

Funding includes an annual salary starting at about 4 million yen, with an approximate monthly total at hiring of 382,610 JPY or more. Additional benefits include commuting and housing allowances, social insurance, and other standard employment benefits. The position requires on-site attendance at the Wako Campus in Saitama.

Applications are accepted online through the RIKEN recruiting system. The posting indicates the application window runs from 2026-07-14 to 2027-07-14, with review by screening and interview until the position is filled.
