About this position

Research Fellow A in Computational Linguistics at the University of Surrey (Surrey Morphology Group, Guildford) for the UKRI FLF project Scaling predictability in Morphological paradigms, led by Sacha Beniamine.

This is a postdoctoral research position focused on computational linguistics, morphology, inflectional morphology, linguistic typology, and software development. The successful candidate will help create new software tools, extend the existing Qumin software, and develop precise, comparable measures of morphological predictability across complex inflectional systems.

The role is based in Guildford, United Kingdom, and is expected to run for up to 2 years with a possibility of extension to 4 years. The post offers a salary of £38,448 to £41,885 per annum, plus pension, relocation assistance where appropriate, flexible working, and other university benefits.

Applicants should have a PhD in computational linguistics, natural language processing, or a related field; a strong background in linguistics and software development; fluency in Python; experience with command line, git, continuous pipelines/workflows, and IDE tools; and an interest in reproducibility and linguistic research. Experience working in a team and using computational tools to answer linguistic questions is preferred/essential.

To apply, submit your CV, contact details for 2 academic referees, three relevant works (DOI/URL links if possible), and a one-page research statement via the online application portal. The closing date is 30 October 2026. Interviews are planned for 24 November 2026 and will be held online.
