About this position
The University of Arts Linz (Kunstuniversität Linz) is inviting applications for a University Assistant (Postdoc) in the Department of Art History and Art Theory within the Institute of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies.
This is a temporary part-time postdoc appointment at 75% (30 hours per week) and is offered as a replacement for maternity leave. The position is expected to start on 1 October 2026 and run for 6 months, likely until 31 March 2027, with a possible extension to 12 months if needed. The monthly salary is 3,564.22 euros before tax and deductions, paid 14 times per year.
The department emphasizes an open, interdisciplinary understanding of art history. The post combines teaching, research, and contributions to academic service and departmental development. Teaching areas include modern and contemporary art history, art theory, and gender studies. The successful candidate will also carry out independent research projects, support conferences, workshops, lecture series, academic publications, and contribute to the preparation of third-party funded projects and grant applications.
Applicants should have a strong interest in artistic practice and a critical awareness of gender theory, postcolonial discourse, diversity, and the reflective critique of art historical methods. A research interest in moving image arts would be desirable.
Required qualifications include a PhD in art history, a research focus in modern and contemporary art history, university-level teaching experience, and very good German and English. The position also asks for strong organizational and administrative abilities, social and teamwork skills, interdisciplinary openness, and gender/diversity competence. Several years of teaching in higher education are preferred.
The University of Arts Linz highlights a collegial work environment, diverse academic and artistic events, and support for further training. The university also states an anti-discriminatory recruitment policy and explicitly encourages applications from qualified women, applicants with migration experience or background, and applicants with disabilities.
