Carlos P. Fitzsimons

Two PhD candidates are being recruited for a collaborative neuroscience project on repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (rmTBI) and its role in long-term memory decline and dementia. The project is titled “From injury to decline: understanding cellular mechanisms driving traumatic brain injury-associated dementia” and is a joint effort between Carlos P. Fitzsimons at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences, University of Amsterdam and Evgenia Salta at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience . The research will investigate how repeated mild brain injury affects the hippocampus, neuroinflammation, neural stem cell function, and memory-related circuits. The work combines mouse models and human hippocampal tissue, with methods including single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry, cellular analyses, electrophysiology, and behavioural testing. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in neuroscience , neurodegeneration , neuroinflammation , hippocampal biology , neural stem cells , and brain injury . The post indicates that the positions are part of an NWO-funded collaborative project. Interested applicants are directed to the application links shared in the post. No deadline, stipend amount, or detailed eligibility criteria are stated in the text provided.
