Western Sydney University’s 2027 research scholarship round is open for a PhD student in the School of Medicine, with research focused on neuroinflammation, ageing, and neurodegeneration . The project area includes neuron–glia interactions , cognitive decline , and potential therapeutic interventions, using multidisciplinary approaches such as animal models, neuroanatomy, molecular biology, behavioural neuroscience, imaging, and omics. This is a competitive PhD scholarship opportunity for applicants with strong academic performance, meaningful research preparation, and clear potential for doctoral research. Selection is based on academic qualifications, relevant research experience, research outputs relative to opportunity, and the quality and suitability of the proposed doctoral project. Applicants may nominate up to three research outputs that best demonstrate readiness for PhD study. Funding includes an annual stipend of AUD $38,707 for three years and tuition fee coverage through the Australian Government Research Training Program. The scholarship begins in Quarter 1, 2027 . Eligibility is limited to domestic applicants . International applicants are eligible only if they completed a Western Sydney University MPhil or MRes in 2025 or 2026, or are currently enrolled in one of these degrees and under examination.
