KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Postdoc in AI-based Electrical Machine Design

This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is part of the EU Horizon project 'ODDYSEV - Optimised DYnamics of high voltage powertrains: developing Sustainable Systems for Electric Vehicles.' The research focuses on designing high-voltage motors for electric vehicles using advanced shape and topology optimization techniques, moving beyond traditional parametric optimization algorithms. The project leverages AI tools to achieve wide speed operation and peak efficiency above 95%, while incorporating system-level constraints to address the complexity of automotive powertrains. ODYSSEV is a collaborative effort involving 14 universities and companies, providing a rich environment for cross-boundary networking and knowledge exchange aimed at advancing the electromobility market. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and international research team at KTH, a leading technical university committed to sustainability, innovation, and diversity. The position is full-time, for up to two years, and offers a monthly salary. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, with expertise in electric machines and drives, finite-element analysis (electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical simulations), and proficiency in Matlab/Simulink. Excellent English skills (CEFR C1 or higher) and the ability to work collaboratively in an international setting are required. Preferred qualifications include recent doctoral graduation (within three years), laboratory experience, knowledge of power electronics and control, experience in electromobility applications, and teaching experience. The application process requires submission of a CV, publication list, diplomas and grades (with translations if necessary), a brief research statement, and contact information for two references. The deadline for applications is November 21, 2025. The position is intended as a first career step after dissertation and is subject to security clearance if applicable. KTH values equality, diversity, and good working conditions, making it an attractive destination for postdoctoral researchers in electrical machine design and AI-driven optimization.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Postdoctoral Position in AI-based Electric Machine Design

This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is part of the EU Horizon project ODDYSEV, which aims to develop optimized high voltage powertrains for sustainable electric vehicles. The project focuses on designing high-voltage electric motors using advanced shape and topology optimization tools, leveraging AI capabilities to achieve broad torque-speed characteristics and maximum efficiency above 95%. The optimization process will incorporate system-level requirements to reflect the complexity of developing complete drivetrains for automotive applications. ODDYSEV is a collaborative effort involving 14 universities and companies, providing opportunities for cross-disciplinary networking and knowledge exchange to deliver robust solutions for the electromobility market. The successful candidate will join a creative and dynamic research environment at KTH, a leading international technical university committed to education, research, and innovation for a sustainable society. The position offers full-time employment for up to two years, with a monthly salary and access to excellent working conditions and benefits. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent, completed within the last three years, and demonstrate scientific expertise in electric machines and drive systems, particularly in design using finite element analysis (electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical simulations) with tools such as COMSOL or Ansys. Strong skills in Matlab/Simulink and proficiency in English (CEFR C1) are required. The role demands the ability to work collaboratively in an international team, follow new research trends, and develop ideas independently, with an emphasis on diversity and equality. Additional merits include laboratory experience, knowledge of power electronics and control of electric machines, experience in electromobility applications, and teaching ability in the relevant field. The application process requires submission via KTH's recruitment system, including a CV, publication list, degree certificates and transcripts, translations if necessary, a brief research statement, and contact information for two referees. The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and the application deadline is November 21, 2025.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Doctoral student in Electrical Engineering with focus on electrical motor reliability

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is recruiting a doctoral student in Electrical Engineering focused on electrical motor reliability within the TERMINATOR project, funded by FFI. The project studies how fast-switching silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power electronics influence long-term motor reliability. A central question is how fast voltage transitions (high dv/dt of 20–50 kV/µs) create electro-thermal stresses that accelerate stator insulation dielectric aging and bearing damage. As a doctoral student, you will work in the Electrical Machines and Drives group at KTH, in close collaboration with industrial partners Traton AB, ABB AB, and ABB Robotics Sweden AB. The work combines experimental electrical engineering, reliability testing, and data-driven modeling. Planned research tasks include developing automated laboratory platforms for controlled electro-thermal aging experiments; carrying out accelerated aging tests on stator insulation and bearings; analyzing experimental data to build predictive lifetime models using statistics, signal processing, and machine learning; and validating degradation models on laboratory motor test benches under inverter excitation. The position is supervised by Associate Professor Luca Peretti, and the report line is also to him. This is a full-time doctoral employment leading to a doctoral degree. The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and the first day of employment is according to agreement, with autumn 2026 suggested. Eligibility follows Swedish doctoral admission rules: applicants must hold a second-cycle degree such as a master's degree, or equivalent coursework/knowledge meeting the stated higher-education credit requirements. English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. The selection process also values practical lab experience in power electronics, electric drives, or high-frequency measurements; programming skills in MATLAB and Python; understanding of stator insulation systems or bearings; and experience with statistical analysis, signal processing, or machine learning. The employment is temporary and follows KTH doctoral student salary conditions. The announcement states that applications must include diplomas and grades, certified translations if needed, proof of language qualifications, a CV, a concise motivation letter, and representative publications or technical reports. Applications are submitted through KTH's recruitment system. The last application date is 2026-09-17.
