About this position
This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is part of the EU Horizon project ODDYSEV, which aims to develop optimized high voltage powertrains for sustainable electric vehicles. The project focuses on designing high-voltage electric motors using advanced shape and topology optimization tools, leveraging AI capabilities to achieve broad torque-speed characteristics and maximum efficiency above 95%. The optimization process will incorporate system-level requirements to reflect the complexity of developing complete drivetrains for automotive applications. ODDYSEV is a collaborative effort involving 14 universities and companies, providing opportunities for cross-disciplinary networking and knowledge exchange to deliver robust solutions for the electromobility market.
The successful candidate will join a creative and dynamic research environment at KTH, a leading international technical university committed to education, research, and innovation for a sustainable society. The position offers full-time employment for up to two years, with a monthly salary and access to excellent working conditions and benefits.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent, completed within the last three years, and demonstrate scientific expertise in electric machines and drive systems, particularly in design using finite element analysis (electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical simulations) with tools such as COMSOL or Ansys. Strong skills in Matlab/Simulink and proficiency in English (CEFR C1) are required. The role demands the ability to work collaboratively in an international team, follow new research trends, and develop ideas independently, with an emphasis on diversity and equality. Additional merits include laboratory experience, knowledge of power electronics and control of electric machines, experience in electromobility applications, and teaching ability in the relevant field.
The application process requires submission via KTH's recruitment system, including a CV, publication list, degree certificates and transcripts, translations if necessary, a brief research statement, and contact information for two referees. The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and the application deadline is November 21, 2025.
