About this position
Fully funded PhD scholarship in Korean Studies at the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, University of Copenhagen.
The project is part of Sensing Korea: Reframing Korean Studies in the Nordic Countries, a five-year research project focused on sensory and narrative approaches to Korean Studies and on exploring Korean experiences beyond essentializing representations.
The PhD candidate will work with project leader Barbara Wall and the project team, and will be supervised by Barbara Wall. The position is based in the Faculty of Humanities at UCPH and includes teaching and other departmental duties.

Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree in Korean Studies or a related humanities field. Preferred backgrounds include Literary Studies and Sensory Studies, as well as Musicology, Media Studies, Religious Studies, Cultural Studies, History, Art History/Visual Culture, Performance Studies, and East Asian Studies. Excellent proficiency in Korean and English is essential, and proficiency in a Scandinavian language and/or Literary Sinitic (Hanmun) is an advantage. Applicants educated outside Denmark must have a master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree or at minimum a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree plus professional qualifications at master’s level. Strong written and spoken academic English is required, and additional language skills or knowledge of related regions are advantageous.
