About this position

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), in partnership with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, is offering the JC STEM Early Career Research Fellowship for Translation and Application 2026/27. This is a postdoctoral fellowship designed to support promising STEM researchers who want to turn scientific research into real-world industry applications, innovation outcomes, and broader social impact.

The Fellowship provides substantial multi-year support for up to three years, including a stipend of up to HK$579,200 per year, an additional 15% gratuity upon completion, an academic development and exchange allowance of up to HK$32,000 per year, research project seed funding of up to HK$389,000, and a proof-of-concept fund of up to HK$500,000. Fellows will also be offered capacity-building programmes focused on translational capability, commercialisation readiness, and exposure to industry and innovation ecosystems.

The scheme is aimed at early career STEM postdoctoral researchers with strong academic and research track records and a clear aspiration to develop as translational research leaders. Applications will be assessed on research achievements, capability in research translation, the scientific merit and translational potential of the proposed research, and the support provided by the applicant’s supervisor and university.

Eligibility is limited to applicants who have obtained, or will obtain by 31 December 2026, their first PhD degree or an equivalent qualification in a STEM discipline, and who were awarded the degree on or after 1 January 2023. Applicants must also be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong and be supported by a UGC-funded university where the fellowship will be held.

The application process begins with an online Qualtrics form and submission of CVs, academic qualification proofs, and supporting documents. The initial university deadline is 21 August 2026 at 11:59 PM HKT. Shortlisted candidates will attend interviews in early September and participate in a commercialisation workshop and presentation feedback session. Final nominated applications, including research proposals, must then be submitted to the Trust’s online platform by 29 October 2026 at 5:00 PM HKT.

This opportunity is especially relevant to researchers in engineering, applied mathematics, materials science, biomedical engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, and other STEM areas seeking strong translational and commercialisation support in Hong Kong.
