About this position
FEUP (Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto) is offering 1 Research Grant within the project i-DINSystem – Intelligent and Dynamic thermal INsulation System for adaptive modular façades. The work is based in Civil Engineering and focuses on building performance, thermal insulation systems, modular façades, hygrothermal simulation, CFD-based optimization, and AI-assisted predictive modelling.
The research plan includes: development of a numerical model to assess the impact of a dynamic thermal insulation system on lightweight modular façades; geometric optimization of an existing façade system; functional optimization using climate-forecast-based predictive modelling; and communication/dissemination activities. The position is supervised by Professor Eva Sofia Botelho Machado Barreira at the Department of Civil and Georesources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto.
This is a master’s-level research grant (not a PhD or postdoctoral opening). Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral programme in Civil Engineering or in a qualifying non-academic degree course, and must hold a master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. The announcement highlights desirable experience in Building Physics and Technology, computer simulation of hygrothermal behaviour and/or energy efficiency of buildings, publications, laboratory work, and prior research scholarship experience.
The grant stipend is 1,359.64 € per month. The initial duration is 6 months, with a predicted start in October 2026, and possible renewal within project limits. Applications must be submitted online via apply.up.pt by 2026-09-21, together with a motivation letter, degree certificates, CV, honour declaration, and any other relevant documents.
