This project sits within Monash University Malaysia’s Graduate Research Thematic Cluster, From Biomarkers to Therapeutics: An Integrated Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease. The research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes, microglial regulation, pathway analysis, bioinformatics, neuroprotection, and intranasal delivery of a patented MSC-Ex dry powder formulation. The project aims to profile exosome contents, identify molecular pathways, and validate therapeutic mechanisms in vitro and in vivo AD models.
Eligibility highlights: preferred Malaysian citizen; degree background in Biomedical Science, Neuroscience, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or Regenerative Medicine; familiarity with cell culture and molecular biology techniques; bioinformatics experience or willingness to learn pathway/network analysis tools; interest in neurodegenerative disease models; animal handling skills are an advantage.
Funding: this is a competition-funded PhD project under the Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship (GEMS). The scholarship includes regional mobility and an immersive year at Monash University Australia, Monash University Indonesia, or the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for up to 9 months, plus access to Monash’s global research network and infrastructure.
