About this position

PhD scholarship opportunity at Wrocław University of Science and Technology in the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Poland. The project, AITAX (AI Tax Advisor), focuses on applying computer science, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and semantic search to the analysis and processing of tax data.

The research aims to build a semantic repository for tax documents, develop machine learning methods for embedding-based representations, and create tools for semantic search, interpretation summarisation, and interactive chatbot support for factual-state definition and tax ruling applications. The work also involves advanced NLP models, in-context learning, and dynamic prompting with conversational memory.

This is a PhD position funded by the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) 2021–2027 Priority 2 under the FIRST TEAM programme. The scholarship is 5000 PLN per month for 1 year.

Eligibility highlights include a completed Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Engineering, Law, or related fields, enrollment in a doctoral school, excellent English, strong motivation for multidisciplinary research, and solid Python/ML skills (PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers). Experience with legal data, especially tax rulings or court decisions, is preferred. Polish and English at excellent level are listed in the posting.
