About this position
DTU Physics is advertising a PhD scholarship in Catalytic CO₂ Conversion to Carbon Nanotubes in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. The project explores a new route for carbon utilization: converting captured CO₂ directly into carbon nanotubes (CNTs), combining climate-change mitigation with the sustainable production of advanced nanomaterials.
You will join the Catalysis and Operando Characterization (CATOC) group at the Technical University of Denmark and work in close collaboration with Leipzig University. The research combines catalyst synthesis, catalytic testing, advanced electron microscopy, and operando X-ray characterization to understand how catalysts form, evolve, and produce CNTs under realistic reaction conditions.
The project focuses on developing mono- and multimetallic catalyst materials based on metal silicates, evaluating performance under realistic conditions, studying CNT growth and harvesting, and investigating catalyst regeneration strategies. The goal is to establish structure–activity relationships that guide the design of next-generation catalysts for CO₂-to-CNT conversion.
Applicants should have a strong background in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, nanotechnology, or a related field. Experience with catalysis, materials synthesis, electron microscopy, or characterization techniques is considered an advantage. A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent is required. You may apply before receiving the degree, but you cannot start before it is awarded.
The position is a 3-year full-time PhD scholarship with salary and appointment terms according to the Danish collective agreement and DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff. The application deadline is 19 November 2026. Apply online through DTU’s recruitment portal and submit one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, and transcripts plus degree documentation.
