About this position

Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is offering a PhD Scholarship in the diagnosis and prognosis of fatigue damage in steel structures, with a particular emphasis on steel bridges. You will contribute to a coherent framework that integrates: physics-based multi-fidelity structural models for high-resolution analysis at fatigue-prone hot-spots; virtual sensing methods for load and stress estimation from limited sensor data; and advanced fatigue analysis using fracture mechanics, crack initiation, crack growth, and remaining-life prediction. The project also includes exploration of fatigue mitigation strategies aimed at stress relaxation in vulnerable areas and improved material efficiency.

Research outputs are expected to include scientific publications, presentations at international conferences and workshops, support for teaching activities, and co-supervision of BSc and MSc projects related to the PhD topic. The diagnostic and prognostic framework may be validated using simulated data and/or laboratory-generated data.
