About this position

DAAD is advertising the In-Country/In-Region Scholarships Programme at SEARCA for PhD studies in development-related fields. The programme supports international students and researchers who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Southeast Asia.

Eligible applicants are graduates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, East Timor, Thailand, or Vietnam who already hold a Master’s degree and want to pursue doctoral studies at one of the SEARCA partner institutions.

Funded study areas include Environmental Science, Sustainable Land Use and Natural Resource Management, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Systems and Modeling, Planning and Management of Coastal Area and Watershed, and Geography.

The scholarship is awarded for the standard period of study, generally up to three years, and includes a monthly scholarship, tuition fees, study and research allowance, printing allowance, and a travel allowance for in-region scholarships.

Applications are submitted in two steps: first, complete the application via the DAAD Portal; second, apply for admission directly to SEARCA using the host institution’s prescribed procedure. The host institution sets its own admission deadline, so applicants should check that separately.

Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.

How to apply

Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
