What documents do I need to apply for a master's, PhD or postdoc abroad?

Most applications ask for a CV, a statement of purpose or motivation letter, two or three references, transcripts and degree certificates, an English test result and your passport. Research degrees often add a research proposal of 2,000 to 3,000 words. Book your English test and ask your referees first, because both take weeks, and check each advert's own list.
