About this position
Two fully funded PhD positions are open at the University of Lausanne (HEC Lausanne) in the SNSF-funded B+RAID project: Bike-and-Ride Accessibility and Intermodal Development. The project sits at the intersection of transportation, mobility, data science, civil engineering, economics, and statistics, with a strong focus on sustainable mobility transitions.
The two doctoral projects are complementary:
• PhD 1 (Demand-side): traveler behavior, accessibility, and modal choice, including accessibility analysis, mode choice modeling, and simulation.
• PhD 2 (Supply-side): shared mobility systems, operations, fleet management, and station-area planning.
The research aims to understand how cycling can improve first- and last-mile connectivity, expand station catchment areas, and support decarbonization of public transport systems. The successful candidates will work in an interdisciplinary environment with access to rich datasets such as mobility, GIS, shared mobility, and survey data, and will contribute to publications, project deliverables, and collaborations with mobility stakeholders.
Funding: fully funded by SNSF; salary according to SNSF/UNIL standards (CHF 55,000 per year plus monthly allowance), for up to 4 years at 100% activity rate.
Eligibility: Master’s degree in Transportation, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; strong quantitative skills; interest in sustainable mobility and interdisciplinary research; experience or interest in GIS, econometrics, optimization, discrete choice modeling, or simulation; fluency in English (French is a plus).
Application deadline: 1 May 2026. Applicants should submit a cover letter indicating interest in PhD 1 and/or PhD 2, CV, transcripts and degrees, a writing sample (e.g., Master’s thesis), and two recommendation letters or reference contacts via the University of Lausanne online application system. Applicants must also apply to the doctoral program in Business Analytics.
